An unforgettable wildlife excursion few get to witness

Join me on a guided trip to the heart of eagle country.

Every June, powerful currents in the Discovery Islands push hake to the surface and the sky fills with bald eagles. Hundreds of birds gather to feed, soar, and clash over the water in a scene that feels almost unreal.

We’ll be based at a private premium waterfront resort in Blind Channel, only accessible by boat. It is quiet, remote, and surrounded by forest and ocean. You’ll fall asleep to tide sounds and wake up to birds (and eagles) calling for you to come out and play.

This is a trip for:

  • nature lovers and bird enthusiasts

  • photographers (from serious hobbyists to pros)

  • anyone who wants an ethical, small-group wildlife immersive experience far from crowds

We follow strictly ethical wildlife practices and keep our distance so the animals set the terms. There is no baiting, calling, or tricking of any kind.

On the final night, the group will choose a conservation organization to receive 10% of trip proceeds, and 25% of all Wildlife Postera proceeds go to wild salmon and habitat protection.

This year I’m offering 3 nights or 4 nights, you can join for either of them. All options are designed around the tides and eagle activity.

WHY THIS TRIP?

More than “just” a photography trip…

This experience is about reconnecting with the wild and immersing yourself in a place where eagles, salmon, forests, and tides all shape each other. You’ll learn how bald eagles behave in these waters, why they gather here, and how this entire ecosystem supports one of the most impressive natural events in the Pacific Northwest.

Our focus is photography — making sure you get the shots you came for — but also slowing down, watching the wildlife around us, and understanding the larger story these birds are part of.

We move with care. We respect wildlife, follow ethical viewing practices, and support the local community. A portion of each trip is donated to conservation, and 25% of all Wildlife Postera proceeds help protect wild salmon and the ecosystems that sustain these birds.

Spaces are extremely limited. This is an intimate, small-group field experience designed for a maximum of six people.

Note: Cabin availability is limited and private unit bookings are first-come, first-served. Special pricing for couples depends on booking date and cabin availability.

WHAT TO BRING

At least one camera body, and I recommend two to get landscape vs. close-up shots.

A zoom lens - anything over 300mm will do, but a 150/180/200-600mm lens will serve you great. Fixed lenses are fine as long as you can handhold. Tripods are not allowed on the boat.

Batteries - definitely have at least 4 batteries for your camera, you will need them!

A comfortable holster or strap for your camera, we’ll be standing on a boat in sometimes choppy waters, and we’ll be taking a LOT of pictures, the camera will get heavy fast. Putting down the camera and picking up again means lost shots.

Enough memory cards + external drives to transfer in the evenings.

Rain gear for you, your camera, and your lenses. We will likely have a day or two with rain given our location and season. Be prepared.

Layers - the temperatures can change quickly and drastically - between 55-70F is normal in June.

Water-resistant shell/layer - we will be on the water in a wet climate. You’ll thank me for this.

Comfortable, waterproof, and sturdy shoes. There is a lovely hiking trail on the island, and we will likely take advantage of tide times to explore the rainforest.

Absolutely NO tripods.

Accommodations

We’ll be staying at a historic, quiet, family-run hideaway on the coast. The landmark villa built by the founders, and the cabin offer comfortable private bedrooms, warm shared spaces, and views of the channels where eagles, salmon, and coastal wildlife thrive. It’s the perfect balance of comfort and wilderness.

Each day, our private captain will pick us up right from the marina at our doorstep, perfectly timed for the optimal tides and currents. No shuttles, no waiting, we walk down to the dock and head straight out onto the water.

Meals are gourmet and thoughtfully prepared by the resort’s in-house chef, using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Dinner is served on-site, and breakfast and lunches are packed for our days on the water. Please note that alcoholic beverages and specialty orders are not included.

The accommodations are cozy and comfortable, but this is still a remote island setting — expect a relaxed, rustic atmosphere with shared common areas. Each guest will have a private bedroom, and bathrooms are either private or shared depending on room assignment and booking order.

Everything is designed to keep you comfortable, well-fed, and fully immersed in what you’re here for: the wildlife, the photography, and the experience.
